Since we're sharing our stories here, I thought I'd mention that I ran a GTO last night. It had dealer plates, so I'd assume it's an '05-06 with 400bhp.
We start at a red light and make a left turn onto a freeway onramp. There's a bit of a bump/dip just prior to the onramp so we both go nice and slow over that. The gto is the first to go past the dip and get on the gas and jumps ahead about a 1/4 car length. From 1st gear to a bit of third we are even as the distance remains the same. At the top of the ramp, the lanes merge so I get on the brakes to let him pass.
So I think I'd call that a tie, not bad since I think those are low 13 second cars.

Couple days ago some guy try to race me with his G35. We were standing on the traffic lights I switched to manual shifting and I smoked the guy so bad that when we came to the next traffic light he didn't want to pull next to me, he was standing 5 cars behind me. I love the power of my E60.

very interesting !!!!!!!!!!!!
I hadn't seen this thread yet but.. I guess maybe if you didn't have much racing experience, (not just street, but track) then you would get upset over the G35 beating you, but don't.
This comes down to many things, here are a couple:
1) Driver vs Driver - and by this I don't just mean who can row through a manual gear box best or shift the steptronic or SMG at the right moment. I am talking about who is hitting the gas pedal first, never mind what gear each car is in when they do hit the pedal. Example, I just had a little play with an Audi TT the other day. Looked like it was a late model, very nice, after market wheels, looked very clean. Now the specs on those are an engine between 180-250hp. With 0-60 times from 8.1 down to 5.7. Just as a note that little thing could handle. I rode in one a few years ago but the driver was very mellow so I didn't get the full experience. But this one passed by me on the highway and I caught up at the exit off-ramp where I got stuck behind a pick-up truck so I couldn't actually try to stick behind him, but it looked impressive as he cruised through the hard right 270 circle ramp with ease. Anyway, back to my point. When we got to the next main road and turned right onto it the light was green so he didn't slow down much. Basically, I was coming from behind, he had already made the corner before me, and was probably doing about 40 mph, with a few hundred feet on me, and by the time I was able to hit the gas and accelerate to try and catch him, I did, and was passing him by about 80 but it sure seemed like it took forever for my 370 hp to do it.
So with all this said, if we had been at the 1/4 drag strip and were racing from a light tree, and assuming we both played fair and didn't jump the light, I would have wiped him silly...
2) MOMENTUM- If we were both on the highway and looked over at each other to race, depending on who hits that gas first, if the cars aren't that far apart on their specs then that person is going to have the lead for quite a while. (so always go first and make them catch you)
So it's sometimes about who hits the gas first, weights of cars, what gear the cars are in and if they are slower or faster to switch to the appropriate one, (which the e-60 can be slow to do in reg auto mode), whether the DSC is on, the list goes on and on..
