Thumbs up

Can you help? I have a March 2004 E60 with ProNav and Bluetooth and I have approached a couple of local dealers regarding the retro-fitting of extended voice activation. I have been quoted wildly varying prices from ?600 to ?1000, all for a part (no 84 64 0 396 162) costing ?45 and a scheduled two hour fit. The reason given for the huge price is that the car will need re-coded despite having just been re-coded under warranty last week - I'm not sure to what CIP version, but my guess is 21.

I am amazed that the entire software package will require recoding just to fit one module, and that it would uplift the price of that module by anywhere between ?400 and ?700. Can you confirm that this is the case? It seems quite bizarre that it is not just a matter of switching a flag on the car?s database to tell the car the part is fitted. I have an IT background and this is a pretty standard way of keeping track of modular systems.

Only one dealer has quoted a reasonable price: ?275 all-in for the job, but they're 100+ miles away in Coventry, which I can do on a Saturday morning if I have to, but I'm concerned that if what the other dealers are saying about a re-code being necessary is actually correct then I will be car-less for two days or more and 100 miles away from home (and therefore reliant on public transport :thumbsdown.

If the dealers are misinformed and the car would not require a re-code just to activate this new part, can anyone recommend a dealer in London, Kent or Surrey who has the experience and could carry out this work?

Thanks

Chris
