Whilst Runflats are safer I don't think you can assume any 'failure' will guarantee a drama-free stop.
I didn't say that nor i assumed "ANY". But i would guess that because of the stiffer tire walls it SOME cases help you or avoid a big incident without too much drama. When a tire blows of course it will be some kind of drama...
I doubt you could continue your journey with the above damage too! That sort of damage and high speeds (even 65mph could be trouble) could cause a major incident...
Of course you can't continue your journey. And of course that at almost any speeds it would be trouble given some particular factors of the event.
My original question was: How much more safer can they be than normal tires in case smth like that happens? How much safer at even higher speeds when we all know the chances are very high for smth bad to happen. As we can see our firend here didn't have any real problems with the car (loosing control, or crash or anything) and i wondered what would have happened if the speed would have been 100 or 130 mp/h. That's it.

Trust me I wasn't having a dig at you - just the marketing guys (BMW included) that falsely 'large-up' the safety... (The impression given is that you're 100% safe from tyre issues)

Well, pictures say more than words.
The rear tyre plain simply exploded during a motorway cruise @ about 65 Mph
The car remained stable and nothing else happened, even the rims have no damage.
In the last picture you see the other rear tyre showing a hole. That tyre didn't explode yet, but i guess it wouldn't be long before that happened there as well.
I did sent the pics to Goodyear but they haven't responded yet, which I think is rather inpolite.
Same thing happened to my right rear on my E39, 540 6 spd with OEM Dunlop SP2000s. It was from heat and worn tread (very hot day, high speed cruising). I reacted more than the car did. Mine were just worn out, but I was unable to get timely replacements (sold out in all of USA), so I continued to use them past their wear/due date. I did have the car realigned when I had new tires (Michelin Pilots) installed.

Cheers,
Ray Hull

I recently had my Dunflops replaced with Eagle NCT5 runflats!! Just had a screw in the right rear and tire plugged. Praying for non-explosive tires.

We had a exploded tire (rear left) on our E34 525i 10 years ago. My dad was driving 160 km/h (100 mph), and in just 2 seconds a big BANG sound came up, the car shaked, and we could see the tire flew off the rim in the rear view mirror!!

Lucky for us this was the rear wheel, if it was one of the front wheels, I might not have been here today!
