We should ban the use of all motorcycles, lawn mowers, outdoor barbecues, and light bulbs that are bigger than 20W. We should also outlaw farting within the earth's atmosphere!!!

I have an 04 530. As I reached into the trunk I managed to touch the side of my bare calf against the tip of the exhaust pipe. Mega pain and an immediate third-degree burn!!!!!!!!!
Has anybody else had this experience?
I can't believe that the car was designed with the tip of the exhaust pipe extending beyond the vertical plane of the bumper in such a way that you could touch the tip of the hot exhaust pipe with the side of your leg.
It appears that my car's exhaust pipe needs to be circumcised so as to remove this hazard. Anybody have any ideas as to how to circumcise an exhaust pipe on a German car?
I burned my leg more than 10 days ago and in all probability I will have the exact arc of the top of the exhaust pipe tip permanently displayed on the side of my calf for the rest of my life
Please give me your feedback on this issue as I really need to know whether anybody else has had this experience and whether anything has been done by BMW to remedy this dangerous situation.

OMG. Does your wife let you use the stove? Those get hot too, maybe GE will do something to remedy the problem.
Also, the exhaust is slighty inward of the bumper. Maybe next time wear a nomex suit when you need to get items from your trunk.

Actually I was wearing my nomex lederhosen , in that it's a German car. but they only come down halfway down my thighs. The advantage is that my wife whistles at me when I wear them but they didn't provide much protection for my calf. I actually wear a helmet while I drive so I don't poke my eyes out with the keys and when I use my stove I wear a full hazmat suit given the nature of my cooking skills.
All seriousness aside I've owned four other BMWs three of which are still in the family . These include a 328 an M5and a 530. None of these cars have exhaust pipes that have the risk for burning your legs.

HA! HA!....for sitting on your heated seats in the winter!
Thank God we live in California and didn't need heated seats, God knows what might've happened when the seat heaters went crazy. But those nomex lederhosen have saved my butt of many times.
Normally I am not accident prone but I really burned the crap out of the side of my leg.... so beware!!!!!

So be careful you don't stick your bare legs to the frozen parts of your car in the middle winter!!

my dealer told me they didn't sell BMWs to people with IQs less than a hundred. That's why BMW invented
idrive so as to befuddle people who were intellectually challenged.
You guys don't get it!!! This isn't about blame this is about bringing to the attention of owners a situation which is dangerous and could easily induce significant pain as well as cosmetic damage. It would have been easy to design the car with exhaust pipes which were approximately an inch shorter so that the situation couldn't occur.
