Dear friends I have purchased a sport shifter (the one with the boot) and a sport button along with the ecu from a forum member for my LCI 2008 535xi. After doing a little research I read that everything is plug and play.
I received all the items(sport button, sport shifter, ecu, trim) and installed it only to get awd/4x4 errors and a gear shifter selector error. I cannot shift the car out of park, and the light on the shifter goes out after a few minutes of the car being on.
Everything is connected as its suppose to be. Does any one have any ideas as to why it is not simply plug and play for me?
I was hoping to have it all installed until I flashed the SAT software and I would possibly just use the heavey steering you get from the sport button until then.
Thank you in advance.

How do you replace the ECU from another car and its plug and play? I would think there is some coding involved for the ECU swap. Maybe I am wrong.

Thank you for the replies. The original one does not have a spot you can plug the sport button into. Also, the new gear selector shifter has a plug that needs to be plugged into the new ecu and will also not work with the old ecu.
I have read that it should all be plug and play on LCI cars so I am stumped.
I will hopefully be able to read and clear the codes tomorrow to see if that helps at all.
