Ok when I first got the car, the dealer set the first oil change to 5000km, after driving the car for 2800km, the idrive says oil change in 2000km, sounds about right, now the car is 7000km, and the idrive service monitor for the oil change actually changes everday, somteimes, 2200, sometimes 2000, sometimes 1800, this morning its back up to 2200. The dealer refuse to change the oil under BSI unless the car actually shows a fault whcih is the oil change needed. What should I do? Make them change it anyways and pay them? or is my sensors faulty or something?

It isn't just time or mileage, I think the computer looks at a set of parameters to adjust the time until a change is required.

does this mean it can somehow "analyze" the quality of the oil?

Look up Condition Based Service (CBS) in your owners manual. As far as I can tell from the short description, the car monitors the conditions the BMW is operated in rather than the oil itself, but I could be wrong.

I believe that is right.

It will change or not change hardly at all. Mine has read about the same for the last 2K in miles. Its not a meter that starts at "x" and counts down with each mile.
