Been an interesting 2 weeks getting used to my new car. I know from brief experience previously that driving a diesel, especially a big six, is different to a petrol engined car.
Stalled the engine about 6 times the first day. Clutch is very light, so I had to get used to the feel of that.
Diesel engine has zero grunt at idle. Need to lift the revs a little before starting off.
Engine is very happy to stop if the revs are too low (motorway traffic, being lazy at changing down)
So with all that, I'm learning. But a few times the engine has just died for no reason. I've driven up to a stop sign, gone to take off, and there's nothing happening. Odd! Engine has died. Happened again today when I stopped. Slow down, brake, clutch in. Engine died. Seems a bit odd. Not sure if there's anything wrong. Maybe the idle is set a bit low (500 rpm?)
Anyone else have similar experience with their diesel.

I stalled my 530d several times when I first had it and whilst moving off from a stand-still. I do find it too sensitive compared to my old [petrol] car, but am getting used to it now & not stalling any more (much). That said, mine has NEVER stalled for any other reason that me not giving it enough throttle when moving off.
I would ask your dealer to take a look at it if it stalls on its own when pressing stopping and pressing clutch.

Should have got auto

I've gone from a manual petrol to an automatic diesel and love it. (Albeit one of the best diesel and automatics on the market

Company car = ?70 a month extra for auto (higher CO2)

However, the fuel consumption is hit with the auto. Still I average just over 30mpg - not bad for a 3 litre large saloon with some serious go in it
