Default Engine runs erratic when shifting to Reverse

Hey guys,

I noticed that my engine runs erratic as I shift to Reverse. I can literally see the speedometer jumps for a second, indicating there's an anomaly.

When the engine is warmed up, it idles pretty steady at 600 RPM. With that said, I can feel the movements of engine mechanical parts transferring mildly and steadily to my steering wheel and the shoulder of the passenger seat. Is that normal?

My car is a 2006 530i (N52 engine) with 83,XXX miles. Do you think changing the transmission filter and fluid will fix it? Can I use throttle body cleaner to clean the DISA (the one connected from the outside of the intake manifold, part #2)?

Any suggestions is greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

Daniel

Dan, did you change engine mounts and trans mount?
Remove the DISA valve and wipe off all oil residue, wipe it dry and install. When you remove DISA, make sure the flap doesn't freely move; when you remove it, it should be in closed position and shouldn't turn. I already replaced the 'outer' DISA on my car because the flap was freely moving. I also have an error (via INPA) corresponding to 'inner' DISA. Same price for both inner and outer DISA.

As for the trans filter and fluid, I definitely recommend changing the fluid and filter. After that, you can be confident about the correct amount of trans fluid in the trans. Please note that the trans fluid expands as the temp increases. So, when the car/engine is cold, it's possible the trans fluid is borderline and as the temp rises, the fluid is expanding and the symptoms are lessened/diminished.

Pcy! One of my heroes on this forum! Hope all is well, man! If you ever come to SoCal, drop me a line! I'll be ready to show you around and introduce you to my favorite masseuse; my treat, of course! Again, thanks for sharing your valuable experiences/knowledge on the forums!

No, I have not replace the engine and transmission mounts "yet". The new transmission kit and bottles of fluid are collecting dusts. I ran out of beers and need to stock up more before I can gain more courage to handle that challenge first.

Not sure if have noticed it yet, but I am known to break "something else" when I try to prevent something from broken. I think some people call it "Preventative Maintenance"? lol
