Engine oil level at minimum
Same thing happened to me at 11k miles.
Used an entire quart, and the problem went away.
I understand that the issue is more of an issue in the first 15k miles than later down the road.
Many here have pointed out that they needed to replace a quart in the first 5k miles.

I get the feeling I did not explained correctly. Surely when it says to add I'll add. My engine is not new. It already has 14.000 miles on it.
I have on my iDrive 10.000 miles until the next oil change. And I checked regularily and level was OK, just in the middle. Today, it says to add, and the level was at minimum. But later in the day, everything was back to normal. I did not added any oil. Just bought a bottle, but did not got the chance to top it.
So? Should I believe the two warnings or should I believe the level now, which is OK?

Which way is better to check the engine oil level? When the engine is cold or hot?

The best would be to check it before the engine has been run. Once the engine has been running, the oil is distributed around the engine rather, and your chances of an erroneous reading are much higher.

Today, on two occasions, my N63B48 engine cried for more oil through iDrive. Then later, I've checked again oil level at it was normal, in the middle, exactly how I was remembering it. What gives? Should I add, should I not add? When should I add? How many times should it complains until I will believe it?
I only have electronic gauge.
Any thoughts?

My wife was driving our E61 525dT today when the oil warning came up on the idrive. She took it to the dealer and they filled it up with a litre of oil. We took delivery of the car in June this year and we have driven it almost 17000 km. Does the engine really use that much oil?
Our previus petrol cars were serviced every 20000 to 30000 kilometers and we never had to fill them up with engine oil in between.
