Engine noises
Hello everyone -
The engine in my 2008 550i is starting to groan and rattle with higher volume in recent months. While I know this is inevitable (age and the law of entropy), I wanted to know if others have had experience with this, and how they have fixed it or lived with it. Here's a link to the video ...

First, there's a rotational ticking noise from the engine. Sound more like a 4 cylinder than V8. I know every engine has some of this, but the volume has increased significantly in recent months, which made me take notice. Has anyone had a similar issue?
Second, there's a grinding noise from the fan belt area. My assumption is that the bearings have gone bad on one of the pulleys. I couldn't isolate the precise area using a stethoscope, however. Is there usually an easy culprit from other people's experience? Alternator bearings? AC?
Thanks for your help with this. Appreciate your help and input.

Start with taking out the serpentine belt, then spin each individual pulley and listen for noise.
Also you can start the car without serpentine belt for about 10-20 seconds or so and you will be able to find out if its ac related or engine.
Make sure not to run the car for too long without serpentine belt because your cooling wont be working.
