All,
Need honest advice on how many members have "de-governed their rides, and if so, did it make a difference in performance? Will it void the warranty? Reason... one of my fellow soldiers told me of his experience driving his e60 without the governer...said to have more horsepower, alot more pedal to get really ugly on the autobahn, not much difference in gas mileage. Can you guys lend me some advice before I make a decision.

I don't think it voids a warranty, unless they can prove that by removing the governer (or anything else) cause some other malfunction and even on that case only that part of the warranty would be void.
Also as far as I know this is done by reprogramming ICU so it is not really visible, there is no switch or bolt which needed to be removed, just don't tell anyone

Someone explained to me that since this car is controlled by software that the limiter is not removed just changed. If that is the case you should be in the good ecspecially since it was probably done by a BMW tech.

Do you mean the speed limiter or the engine limiter.
Removing engine limiter (redline) would be madness, and I'd expect it to void warranty.
Removing the speed limiter (to 155 MPH) isn't really going to be a problem for the car, so I'd can't understand technically why they would void warranty. Commercially, they use anything to void the warranty, of course.

Some ppl even say it is illegal, since in the car documentation it tells the top speed, and that is now changed...

Speed limiter, turbo boost limiter and rpm limiter are in ECU-program and are all efective to the same module (in program). So limiter is not removed but just increased. It's actually one hex-code to be changed.
I know because it was done to mine last Friday.
In program there is lot of limitters, for rpm, torq, boost, speed, mixture ratio, lambda value... It was really interesting to look "inside" governor (program). There is many maps, for ignition (injection in diesels), mixture, boost... all correlation to rpm, boost, temp...
I would not touch to that program!
