Does coolant have a shelf life?
I have a large can of BMW Coolant I bought 3 years ago for top-ups. Still have a lot left. I dont see any expiry date on it though.

I have 96,000 miles on my car and my water pump just went out the other day had it replaced the same time with thermostat so it can break, i would say do the flush it will help. Also check your hoses make sure you do not see any leaks anywhere.

ya its not supposed to be clear. SOmeone dumped way too much water in your tank.
Also you cannot open your resevoir and close it without doing a bleed of the coolant system]
I have opened it to check my coolant level a few times while the car was cold and never had any problems.

Well clearly you dont "know" you have a problem until its too late-the problem is smalll small air pockets creating hot spots where coolant is not reaching adequatly--over many miles the engine warps or is damaged and the block/head etc is severely damaged. So its not something youll notice until down the line. Its not some secret or my special way-do some reading and use some common sense. If you want to wreck an engine go for it--its only a 523 anyway--you could replace that old engine for 1k
