Default Emissions question re US E60/E61s

Hi all,
I'm in the process of searching for an E61 (still debating 535 vs 530) but because there aren't too many wagons and I'm being picky about options, I'm broadening my search to consider cars across the country. However, I live in California, and despite my research I've been unable to get a definitive answer as to whether all E61s, 2007-2010, are California emissions compliant.

I would very much appreciate your collective wisdom on this question, as I've gotten conflicting information.

(For example, a Minnesota BMW service tech told me that BMW still does make 49-state only vehicles, but he couldn't tell me how I could check for this, or whether some E61s might only be 49-state cars. Folks at my longtime indy shop weren't sure how to confirm this either. On the other hand, I see comments on the forums that nowadays, all BMWs are 50-date compliant, but I'd like to know what documentation to look for. I don't see any designation on basic VIN-decoder build sheets for CA-specific emissions equipment.)

Could anyone tell me definitively how I can confirm that an E61 that was not originally bought/sold in CA is CA-compliant? Is there a sticker I should look for? The DMV provides an example of a sticker Toyota apparently uses - does the E60 have something similar?

Relatedly, for those 535s that have had HPFPs replaced already (it seems most have), is there additional CA-emissions documentation I should request? I see here that CA folks must affix an orange sticker demonstrating that an emissions-related recall was performed, but I'm not sure if non-CA owners would receive this or affix it.

Thanks for your insights!

Hi there, thanks for your response - I had seen that link from the DMV and the Toyota example. I did ask a seller to confirm that his non-CA car had a similar CA emissions sticker, and it does. So I guess to answer my own questions for the benefit of posterity...
Yes, E60s have an emissions sticker under the hood.
But... I still don't know if all US-spec E60s are CA-emissions compliant, or whether I need to ask to see the sticker for every out of state E60. So I will continue case-by-case research on non-CA cars.
