Electronic steering wheel adjustment fault

Hi Guys,
I have 2003 530 and the electronic steering wheel adjustment does not work.....there are no faults being thrown up on the idrive and apart for it not moving the steering feels nice and tight. Is this a common fault or one that anybody has any experience with? I'm about to take the column apart and 'have a look' but I thought I would ask in here first
