Default Electrical issues 2004 525i

I've been going through older threads dealing with I-drive problems and it seems that the problem is usually the CCC. Our issues, the display sometimes comes on at start up but goes blank after a few seconds. Problem started after rear window gasket was replaced. Local dealer found the CID display inoperative. Short tested vehicle and found fault A469. They checked module and found the module was faulty. Cost of module replacement $1776 and $195 to program.Son will be home on leave 1-3-13 and we would like to resolve this issue. I guess first question does diagnosis sound correct? Is it something we can do ourselves and can it be done for a lower cost. I realize dealer will still have to program module. Thanks, Rick

That's about correct for the dealer if they are replacing CCC, that is really expensive for CID. If it is just your CID you can buy a used one from ebay and replace it yourself, no programming would be necessary. It is held in by two torx screw. If it is the CCC it possibly could be reprogrammed, sometimes that solves the issue. You can also get a used CCC but the dealer usually won't reprogram it for you, and you would lose voice command. Since you don't have any equipment your best bet is to try a indy shop in your area. If you know for sure it is the CID then buy a used one and replace it yourself.
