The point about the 530 diesel, is you have plenty of power when you want it, and masses of economy when you would rather have that, the choice is yours. I have just done a full tank with my manual 530D with the air-con on, and have a reported 47mpg. I haven't validated whether its that accurate, but I had done 650 miles on that tank before I decided to fill up. This was all dual carriageway driving up and down the A1, and using the cruise control set anywhere between 80-85 where possible. I never thought this would be possible. I have once seen, over a 200 miles stretch 50.5mpg, on a trip on A roads through Norfolk, where the average speed was only 50mph, which is just unbeleivable for a car this big.

I prefer the sound of petrol, I prefer the rev range of petrol, but it will take one hell of a well sorted petrol engine to offset this advantage. But all I can see here in the UK is higher fuel prices, and more congested roads. When the 535D comes along, you will end up with more power with very little extra weight, so this must be heading towards a near perfect perfomance/economy ratio.

Can't wait to have a go in one !!!, and one thing I can be sure of, is when I come to trade my 530D for a 535D, it will be worth more than if it had bought a 530i.
