Thumbs down

Hello,
I just bought a BMW 520D 2006 with some damage to the front and back of the car.
Engine has not been hit. Just the bumpers and the lights (front & back)

When I try to start the car, it shows the Airbag Diploid light and the Steering Wheel Locked light (with a little '1' in the middle)

The car does not want to start , nor will the steering wheel unlock
The LCD screen in the middle of the dash stays turned off.

Does anyone know what to do ?

Tips are much appreciated

Thanks

Did you check these "minor details" before purchasing?

it is a very complicated car, you better have dealer find out how $ to fix these issues.

Good luck,

Man, that's crazy. It could be something electronic like the key not properly communicating with the CAS module (do a search) or something mechanical in the steering column or somewhere else.

My bet is the electronic avenue. You really need to get the car to a dealer to be able to figure out what's going on. Either that, or maybe you can find someone else that will buy a car that doesn't start...

you can start by going to any garage that has electonic dignostics equipment check out what error codes the car gives, look them up what they are first to know whats wrong then clear the falt memory. im almost sure that would cause a developement from you current situation...

They did a read out of the board computer and it seems to be the battery cable.
The E60 comes with a battery cable that is packed with explosives.

In the event something happens to the car, the explosive blows up disconnecting the battery.

The strange thing is that the battery cable is in no way disconnected.
Electricity can still pass 100% true it.

did you clear the fault memory... if you did and the error came back. then there is no doubt the part was used and has to be replaced.. im not sure which part it is. its suppose to be a joint somewhere near the battery.

as i understand the power cable joint does blow in an event of a big impact. but also as i understand the car will unlock the doors and switch on the hazard lights, (perhaps even call BMW assist.)
i cant remmeber i have to look at my battery tomorow but i think there are two wires connected to the battery a small one and a thick one.. maybe the small one is for those small emergency services..

to help you figure things out this is a link to the battery wirring set parts. maybe you can check them find out where the expolisive are supose to be,

Exactly. There is still a low-current lead from the postive terminal to some of the car's circuits but clearly the car won't start without the main lead...
