My Ride: 07' 550i sport; Sapphire Black/Auburn; sport package; steptronic; navigation with R.T.T.I.; heads up; cold weather package; Logic-7; BMW MOST ipod kit; Motorola V3 snap-in adapter; rear heated seats and rear shades; anthracite headliner; sirrius sat. radio; M-aero kit; OEM style 166 Wheels with 245/35-19 front and 285/30-19 rear Michelin PS2s.
Thanks for the responses. I guess its all down the final drive ratio...which won't be enough of an advantage to save the 6er when I slap my 19' 166s back on with 285/30 Pilot Sport rears. I have approx. 12,000 miles on my Pilot Sports and they look like they might last another 8,000 mi. The Dinan software really shortens rear tire life.

BTW my buddy still thinks 1) that his 645 is faster than my car since we were on snow tires on city streets the one time we played around; and 2) having never driven my car or an E60 M5 that the 550 is vastly inferior to the M in every way. It's okay. The 6 is his first BMW (He's a Mercedes guy at heart).

Must ask... Does final ratio matter when we are talking 0-40mph?
If both were doing a drag strip type launch (brake torque to 3000+ RPM and expertly launch the cars to the limits of traction) then its more dependent on tires and weight of the car.
However the lower geared car will have to shift sooner and will loose out to the other car at times but gain it back once the other car shifts.
I can only compare a 650i 6 speed versus a 550i sport auto. The 650i felt like it would launch harder but the sport auto makes up for it in fast shifting. The 550i from idle seems to be a much softer response even in sport mode. However, I think the two would be within .2 secs or less to 60. Neither car launches as hard as the E39 M5 could. It had gobs of low end torque and a limited slip. I could squeal both tires and launch hard from 1500 RPM.
If they are the same then that doesn't explain the gearing theory.
On the M5Board, people have noticed that the M6s are generally showing more rwhp on the dynos so the two theories are 1) different gearing or 2) somehow the M6s have less drive train loss so it puts more power to the ground.

I have these numbers. The trannies are identical, but for rear end I have these. I can verify my 645 is indeed 3.46.

How different is the throttle response on these?
I find 550's throttle response to be very sluggish. It takes at least .5 secs before it really responses. Hence I am thinking of getting a sprintbooster.
