Things I have done:
Replaced seal from valve body to trans
Replace CV2 solenoid in valve body
valve cover gaskets
spark plugs
coil packs
eccentric shaft sensor (broke one doing valve cover gasket)
upper timing cover gaskets
coolant temp sensor o ring

So far that's it. I'm sure I will have to do other maintenance items to the car, but considering I paid $1000 for it a year ago I can't complain. I love it

$1000! Why aren't you in jail. ...you stole that car

Default labor of love

My 05 545 manual sport pkg has 98k on it and I have done all following over past 12 mos diy..
Coolant system overhaul....water pump. ..thermostat. ..upper/lower radiator hoses...expansion tank...lower temp sensor
new serpentine and ac belt...added 745i lower tensioner for easy install
cold air intake w/ ram air
sport button mod...best $25 & 15min ever
alt bracket gasket. ..tedious but easy
torque master plugs. ..working great

Car runs like mad...no smoke...oil or coolant consumption. ..getting almost 20mpg if I keep my foot out of it

Recent new set of sumitomo tires and alignment. ..not diy

Yea leaks seem the be the main issue with these v8's. I just spent $2700 at an indy addressing leaks ONLY. 05 545i 79k miles

$1,400- engine oil leaks
upper timing cover gaskets
valve cover gaskets

$800- coolant leak
new valley pan, return pipe, water pump gasket, etc

$500- transmission fluid leak
new sealing sleeve, atf fluid, reused oil pan

Keep in mind the car was still driving perfectly, with the occasional tranny shifting hiccups these cars suffer from. I wouldn't be surprised if there were more leaks in the engine area. The alternator mount bracket area was wet with oil but the mechanic suggested working from the top down before replacing that alt gasket because we weren't sure if the fluid was only from the top, or both. He just degreased the area. We'll see in the coming months. btw, do these rates seem reasonable?
