It's true on 525i and 530i models NOT the 545i according to BMWNA website. When you select sport on the 545i "active steering" is "included". Doesn't seem to be away around it... but build a 525 or a 530 and you get it as a seperate option.

The e39 se model looks well dated IMHO. The e39 m sport models look fantastic and always will. I don't think BMW will ever create a better looking front end than on the e39, again only MHO.

The e60 simply looks fab.

I currently own an E39...which my wife drives.....and an E60. I like them both. The E39 is perhaps a classic design, but although still beautifull, looks somewhat dated next to my E60.
The E60 interior is also much more modern and spacious.
Looks are subjective of course, but even if I didn't like/hadn't grown to appreciate the looks of the E60 I wouldn't be able to argue that the E39 isn't thoroughly overshadowed by the E60 from the standpoint which matters most to me.....performance.

i used to drive an e39 and after i saw the first spy pic of the e60, i felt in love . i have to agree the interior is not as good as a6/e-class but the overall style and performance is what i like the most . which car has a better headlights than our e60? i can't think of any . i now have my car for 1 year and 3 weeks. i'm still getting compliments especially when people looking at the angel eyes at night .

I previously drove and still have an e39 528i. At first, I didn't like the rear end of the e60 and the higher window sills put me off a bit too. But then I test drove one and fell in love with it. Appearance is secondary for me anyway, but the e60 really has grown on me and I look at it now simply as design evolution. The old models, e39 and prior, really were pretty "boxy" looking and were o.k., but they didn't have a lot of style like the e60. Maybe all the complainers want to be less conspicuous? I think that they just need to get over it.

I just read the link provided by JayEll. I noticed how the e39 owners referred to the e60's as "pigs." My girlfriend when she first saw pictures of my car called it a pig. She now likes to call my car "Piggy."

Does the first impression of the e60 resemble a pig? I find it odd that the pig is the animal that most people say it resembles. I, myself, think it has the looks and lines of a shark especially the front side view. Am I the only one who sees this?

I haven't received my car yet (ED July 18th ), but my 5 year old daughter has already named it. "Bumwah" (BMW spelled out!). Not my fav but coming from her, i love it!

1) Reality check...
Anyone that could afford a new E39 can afford a new E60. BMW seems to have some incentives for repeat buyers, no?

2) I think it's possible the new look BMW's may have stronger appeal to first time buyers but I've no facts to back that up.

3) Once the new E90s hit the street it will solidify the look of the entire BMW lineup. I loved the of the E60 from the first time I saw it but I must admit, the E60 is just stunning and will probably have more mass appeal. Once enough of those are seen folks will get used to the look and the entire lineup will make more sense.

hey hey hey...i didn't know that if u get the sport package (that the m packege right) u get active steering. IS THIS TRUE?!?!? pls pls reply to my question!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As far as I know the bundling of Active Steering with the Sport Package was only for the US model E60's. I don't think the Euro M-Sport Package includes Active Steering. Even in the US they are making it a separate option now so that it does not come with the sport package.

Personally I LOVE ACTIVE STEERING. It is one of my most favorite features and I will never buy a car without Active steering if it is available on that particular model. I really appreciated the Active Steering when I had been driving my car for a couple of weeks and then switched to my old M3 one day. Driving the M3 felt like driving a bus (because of the lack of Active Steering). Another time when I really appreciated the Active Steering was a couple of weeks ago when I drove the E90, the Audi A4, and Infiniti G35 back to back very aggressively during the Ultimate Driving Experience. What a difference it makes.
