Hello BMW Form,

I believe I have root caused ZF trans problem it is the 5-6 solenoid on the master control (valve body) I am going to pull the pan and would like to know how to test the solenoids and which one is 5-6 can any one help me identify and test. 2007 BMW 530 XI.

I think that there is a simple easy or quick test to do at home
The solenoid May seem to operate electricity when you add power but it still will not mean flow
You also have to be careful to add the correct power

I wish I was close as I have spare solenoids
Maybe a transmission shop will test them for you which would be a much easier solution

I have a 2005 545i and my automatic transmission was acting up. Upon acceleration it would jerk and just ran roughly (transmission, not engine).
I changed the fluid and filter and it helped. I added a pint of Seafoam TransTune and after a few hundred miles the transmission ran perfectly.
I have not changed the fluid again, but probably should, and will add another can of Transtune as well. You can leave it in and it won't hurt anything.
If you are having problems with sticky solenoids or bad shifting, add a can of TransTune! Too bad they don't have a traditional dipstick!

Hello hello one and all! New to the forum here. I have a problem with my car that seems odd to me and I'm curious as to whether anyone is familiar with this.
I have a 2007 525xi that has had soooooooooooo many issues, but this one is the latest and greatest. When it shifts into 4th gear, it feels "choppy". It is always there, hot or cold, slow or fast, but it goes away when you reach steady speed. If you are speeding up, it is "bumpy". It feels just like running over seams in the road. It is also sometimes there when speeding up above 4th even at 70+mph. My first thought is that it has to be transmission related, but I'm less sure after driving it today. Any help would be appreciated, as I'm praying for a tree to fall on this thing. Many thanks!

To me it sounds like either low fluid or a faulty solenoid not opening correctly
I don't think it's your clutches as it would be the same in other gears

Slowly you will get the problems fixed
What else is wrong with the poor thing?

It is on its second engine, third alternator, second oil cooler, third battery, third serpentine belt, second air conditioner compressor, second oil level transmitter, finally put on vented rotors, had to fix the oil filter housing due to distortion, TPM sensor is out, plus new HIDs and the other normal stuff. I've had the car not quite 5 years.

if I've had close to as many issues you have had I would of ran the car into a wall. Lol. I've owned mine over 10 years and have had only to replace the battery, starter, water pump once. Also had to fix the VB in the car. All other was just normal

I would tell you that if you are not using OEM parts on the things that matter you will have premature failure in parts (compressor, alternator and cooler). It sucks you have been through so much.

I would do what E60 says and start with a trans fluid change. It seems like that's all you need
