Hi folks,

I have been driving my 2004 530i with 45k miles for about 3 months and I noticed that steering the car is demanded more force then my previous car (Honda accord). Since it was my first BMW, I did not pay much attention to that detail and I thought to myself that it was normal.

Yesterday, I sent my buddy to the grocery store with my car and when he got back he gave me the same comment: "Why is your steering stiff?".

So compared to a Honda or a Toyota, is the BMW 5er steering wheel stiffer?

If not, should I check my fluids or can I rely on the I-Drive?

Let me know what you guys think.

Yah it gets stiffer gradually, Dealer does something to fix it every time I take in for service... but it gets stiffer after few months again.

Try changing the fluid. yeah it does get stiffer and the dealer does add some chemical. But mine had a small ennoying noise that went away with the fluid, plus it also fixed this stiff steering

I like it like that, you avoid oversteering. It feels much sportier.

Yea I kind of like it to, but I was just wondering if it was common or if I should start worrying.

no worries bro.As i said u can always add a chemical to reduce stiffness or change the fluid.but if it doesnt bother u(since u said u didnt give it much attention), then drop the whole thing.

I also sensed it as my previous car was a honda civic.

Yes it absolutely requires more force to steer than an Accord. It is designed that way to allow increased road feel.

I am curently workin on the transaction for the SB, the M-tech is on hold since I have to figure if it's gonna hit my steep uphill driveway (since it sits lower then the stock bumper).

For the rims, I am currently rolling with bright silver 275 19" Breyton flames, with potenza tire with 30 profile. If I can get my lazy ass up to get some pics I will post them.
