Hi,
My E60 525D has developed what i can only describe as steering wander.
by this i mean if driving on freeway the car drifts and i need to apply a bit more oversteer to correct it,this is constant at speed.
i had a problem starting the car some weeks back and when the mechanic arrived to take the car to the garage,he and two others pushed the car out of the driveway whilst the engine was not running, that is ,with no power steering.
is it possible this has caused some damage to the steering rack?
appreciate if anyone that has experienced this could reply.

Have you had the car long?
If you have runflat tyres on the car, particularly if it's a pre-LCI (2007>) then these are particularly prone to tramlining in the surface of the road, causing it to wander.
Running or pushing the car without the power steering should not cause any damage - the power is only for assistance to the driver.

had the car 12 months, and yes it has run flats and I did actually feel the tramlining effect previously but this is a definite wander and steering delay, that seems to be worsening.

I have the same problem. 2007 530i sport package and discovered today, that the passenger side front of the car is sitting about 1/2 an inch lower then the driver's side.Any thoughts why this would be.
