On 520 vs 523, I only have one thing to say, "What is E60 without Active Steering?"

 

R u tempted by the new lower price of the M5?

 

Is the 450K discounted? As far as I know, the published price is 460K. Also, how accurate is your estimate of the M6 pricing? Last I heard, which was this afternoon, PML has not finalised the M6 pricing yet. There is already a queue forming up to order the M6 with yours truely at the head.

 

450k was the last transacted px to cigarette company boss.

Anyway, the listed price for the M5 has dropped. Its now showing 460800.00 which is a drop of 10K from the initial. Wonder if its due to COE and Euro factor or just price adjustment due to lack of market interest.

There is also ONE order that has been postponed. Prospective owner now wants it next year rather than 2005. That leaves only 4 sold. Heard from the grapevine and BMW-sg that ONE will be used as a test car. Therefore, assuming that all these are true, then there will only be 3 consumer owned M5s on the road come September.

I really wonder why PML and BMW Asia are dragging their feet on the M6 price. Makes it very difficult to compare and finally decide. BTW, is the 510K that you heard about bottom line or listed price?

 

I understand from quite a few people incl Amos that the active steering is the most probable cause for all the hesitation whilst turning, etc. Problem is that active steering cannot be turned off at owner's disposal, otherwise we can definitely verify this.

This brings to my mind the time when power steering was introduced. Those days, drivers were forming a bee-line for cars with the new innovation. However, as it was "new" to the Jap car market, many people faced the exact problem which many 520 owners are facing today - hesitation whilst turning. This is because power steering drained quite some engine speed and with the alternator and air-con compressor included, was more than what the engine could take. They, however, improved on this by fine tuning the power steering and more importantly, re-working the pulley ratios and the complaints diminished.

I wonder why BMW never looked at this. Maybe they are; and that is why the 523 comes w/out active steering - because the engine isn't strong enough to incorporate the active steering. Its the cheapest and most obvious way out. Why should they admit to the problem and spend much more in R & D rectifying the matter when only the lowest in the E60 range is facing the problem? Just take off the option and tell people they get what they pay for.

Therefore, for now, I would have to contradict you and vote for the 523 w/out active steering.

Active steering is an option for most 5 series variants including the 523i as well. Don't think BMW is saying 523i can't go with a/s.
In local sg context, PML is taking this option out most likely becoz most ppl would want PDC instead. To keep price down most likely PML do away the A/S and throw in PDC.
I bet you future sg 523i batches will have AFS back on!

I didn't attend becauseI did not want to damage my ride as I will most likely sell it once my M comes.

Zag, you keen on the IDT in late Sep? I have already contacted PML and am promised a response by end of this week.
