I have come to the conclusion that the pre LCI e60 is an absolute masterpiece. Perhaps the perfect car. I spend a lot of time in mine and I am constantly admiring it. I have had it for three years and I am excited every time I get in it.

The styling is perfect. All of the lines on the car flow together beautifully. There is no other car like it, not even the other beamers... the 7, the 3, the 6, the 1.. None of them come close to the styling perfection of the 5. All of the other manufacturers have tried to copy it too- look at the Honda accord, a down right forgery. From the unique headlights that are the essence of "angel eyes", to the concave beltline that flows into the tail lights and the original trunklid.. Everything on the car flows and is aerodynamic. So much so that I have had the windows down at 110+ MPH and can still carry a conversation in a normal voice. There is no wind buffering at all in this car.

The stunning exterior design flows into the interior- The swooping door panels put the controls and the grab handle at the perfect angle to your hand and organically flow into the dash. The dash then flows into the rear view mirrors in complete styling harmony.
There is no chrome or silver bezels to distract you anywhere. A knob and 1 button to control the idrive along with a second knob for radio volume and simple climate controls are all you see.

The driving controls - cruise, indicators, lights, and washers are all in the PERFECT positions. The shifter and transmission are classic with no complicated procedures to shift and park. The ebrake is mechanical. No push button start.

The car is also the perfect size. Plenty of room for 4 and plenty of luggage, and still efficient and easy to park. I am able to carry everything I need in the car or on the roof rack. I see no need for a truck or suv except to tow and haul furniture. The 3 series is too small and the 7 is unnecessarily large.

Anyway these are my observations from enjoying this car. The LCI is nice too but IMO lost some of the unique charm the original possesses.

i feel the LCI is a huge improvement. i think the pre LCI inside door panels looks primitave in comparison to LCI. the LCI headlights and tailights are a HUGE improvement over pre LCI.

I agree with you about the E60 in general, but IMO the LCI cars was BMWs way of perfecting a near perfect automobile.

Good Day Sir.

+1.

The E60 was way ahead of its time, hence the e60 still looks as upto date as its recently replaced rivals. Bangle was critised but I recon he had a Delorean in his garage somewhere.

The E60 is a great looking car. I too prefer the LCI look (especially the tails which are a true masterpiece).

Most definitely. To me the E60 looks far more modern than its newer competition.

I agree that the E60 design is very good and still up to date compared to the latest cars on the road from other manfacturers....BUT..

it's the LCI that I prefer over the pre-LCI.

But not matter which you have, they're still one of the best out there :lol

Having spent considerable stick time in both an LCI and a pre-LCI, I agree that the E60 (both flavors) is pretty perfect but I will add that I prefer the LCI over the pre-LCI...

+1, as already stated, pre-LCI interior looks yucky compared to the LCI interior.
