Hi Everyone,

My car is a '05 BMW 545i and I'd like to retrofit the MP3/AUX/IPOD input capability.
I called my closest Stealership, and quoted me stellar prices of 490$ for labor ONLY + Cost of parts. and i said "thank you" hanged up.
Now, I've done my search about doing it yourself for the parts and have it programmed only. but for almost $500 i'd rather burn 10 thousand normal CDs.

Can anyone point me in the right direction on:

1) Where do I buy the Parts (anyone that has it working and reliable)
2) I read that it can only be MP3+AUX OR MP3+IPOD, and has to remove my CD changer from glovebox <is this correct?
3) Who can programmed it for me for Cheap. and how much.

I am Located in the SF bay area. I can drive to your shop if you are close to me.

THANK YOU!!!

Tao

The OEM Ipod Interface will cost you around $300. You will need to remove the 6 cd changer and you will need a software update for proper functionality.

There are coders up in the Bay, but I don't know any of them.

If you ever come down to OC, I can do it as well.

Thanks for the info,

Do you know any good seller for the parts?

or better yet, do you have bookmarked a complete DIY on this? I tried to look up and no luck so far.

I dont have any plans to go S. Cal at the moment, but i will keep it in mind

I am sure you can find coders in the Bay.

The part you can buy from the dealer, or just search for the part number online. The cheapest I have seen is $50 I believe. As for install DIY, nope, don't have it bookmarked. Just search for it, shouldn't be too hard to find.

I'll look for the parts online.

One more thing, When they program for the ipod port, does it activate the MP3 playback functionality as well?

Hey man,

just came back from my local BMW dealer myself and the cost of retrofitting the iPod connection here in Dublin would be about 650.- EUR!
I'm looking for the iPod/iPhone upgrade myself, so I have found few options, some bit cheaper.. maybe U want to check them out, they are pretty much global:

- mObridge Bluetooth and iPod for BMW
- Cartronics iTronic iPod connection
- Dension Gateway 500 iPhone adapter

still the options vary depending on the type of Your head unit.. most of them should go easy with CDchanger /Bluetooth enabled units.
the only problem is, they are not plug and play types, so Your bimmer would still nead some coding by a pro..
