Interesting Question.
There is no set time between car makers like BMW showing official pictures and then actually making the cars. The production dates will never change, they are always set in stone years in advance for model introduction, facelifts etc. They will release pictures when they feel ready. It depends on if the current model is doing well or not and other market conditions. A good example of this is The new X5, even though production was a while away, they released official pictures early, to coincide in Audi's Q7 launch and throw a spanner in the works. Just so it makes people hang in there, knowing its coming soon, and not sniff about the audi and they were more than happy with the outgoing models sales performance this year. There won't be much about the 5 series facelift out, cause its a routine facelift of a car thats doing very well and its not a all new model. So why stop a good thing by bringing information out too early when the current car is still in best in its class?.

I asked this question on another thread but it got kind of lost.
Historically, for recent facelifts like the X3 and X5, how much time was there between the press release/photos AND the factory switchover/dealer availability?
Obviously, BMW won't want to kill sales by releasing details too early but can we expect an announcement with details before March and if so, when would said annoucement be (typically)?
Thanks!
