12/05 530D (M57N2). A little less than 90 tkm and no engine problems that I'd know of. Having read all those scary stories about the swirl flaps being sucked into the engine I'm a bit worried though.

Does anyone know if the swirl flaps were somehow better implemented in the M57N2? The pictures of the intake manifold (isn't this where the problem is?) of the M57N and M57N2 look identical though:

Lots of other problems, but not engine related....

There was redesign of the flaps and the spindles, apparently/according to some...in mid 2004. There is a huge thread in the 3 series section of BMWLAND.co.uk - http://www.bmwland.co.uk/talker/viewtopic....53451 "320d Potential engine weakness's" where the M57 is covered too. Some of it is scarey...some '54's have/might be affected...

There have been none reported for the 730d's or X5/3 with the M57's so I think only the early E60's could be affected. Who knows...

Any more diesel cars with high miles????

My Ride: '06 535D touring with M-Sport paket
Default

535D touring Feb 2006 - 110.000km. 30.000km done by myself these last 6 months. First 80.000Km by 1st owner.
No problem so far.
I'm quite heavy on the right pedal, but always wait to have engine warm up to do it. I change the oil/filter every 15.000Km, instead of 30.000km.
Oil consumption about 1.5l/10.000km. Diesel consumption: 10.5 liters/100Km.

The revised M57 is designated with M57N2, those are the ones with the mods

If you goto realOEM with your last 7 it will tell you which revision your motor is.

2005 530D with 116k miles.
Only had the car a couple of months, just replaced 4 glow plugs.
Pulls like a train and nice and quiet, long may it continue

Runs fine here. Around 25000 km so far.

Just don't like the rougher vibrations that the car gives off when in 'D' and especially in 'P'.
Doesn't sound as sexy as a gas engine, that's for sure.

Overall, no problems except for when iDrive goes crazy once in a while....

Should be smooth. No vibration in D or P but at over 150k miles it is doing very well. ? injecotrs causing the vibration as the get worn.

525dSE Auto, Nov 2007, 24,000 miles.

No issues at all, bar a squeek from the front passenger seat - goes away when I put my coat on it.

Only needed 1L of oil before first service, during first few 1000 miles. Since then, does not seem to use any oil. Average around 40 MPG, which I think is pretty good.
