Well, this proves a few things:
1) the owner is an idiot who probably thought where he parked they couldn't tow it (he was wrong)
2) the cops are probably right, over $5k damage easily
3) if you're going to park illegally in NYC you really should have an NYPD placard for your windshield or a prominent PBA card/sticker - if this guy had had one they would've left the car alone.
(had a friend who was an NYPD detective, whenever we went out he'd bring his placard, we could park anywhere we wanted, no ticket)

This is crazy, even if the guy was parked illegally, you don't tow the car like this! Give him a big ticket but don't damage the vehicle like this. If you ask me both the driver of the BMW and the NYPD are stupid. Thanks God I don't live in NY........

Besides damaging the car I don't see how the police can get away with all the damage to the property as well for a parking violation. Some valuable information is missing.

While I agree with you moopai, unfortunately, the rules allow Tow companies to pretty much do whatever the hell they want to tow the vehicle.

I remember not long ago there was a clip online of how this tow truck practically destroyed two cars trying to tow a vehicle in the snow. People were screaming, and the fucker just kept at it.

Looks more like a stolen car thats been dumped.

The car looked damaged before they started towing to me.
