Your dealer is wrong. The crankcase breather Housing is a servicable by replacing part. The updated crankcase breather has no visible breather like the one you have. The filter is built into the new type housing. The new and old one look the same but are internally different.

What is the correct partnr for replacing the old "roll-filter" with the new vortex?

I`ve searched and found different numbers. Is one of this correct for my 05 525d?

11127799366?
11127799367?

I had this confirmed from my dealer only last week - question, is there any benefit at all in changing the breather on a 535D

If it hasn't been changed at 100,000 then change it. It will prolong the life of your turbo, rid any white smoke from your exaust and can prevent your engine from asking for oil top ups.

Check out the diy on here, it's simple enough.

I would love to see the "filter" everyone is talking about (link to part diagram). I belive the correct term is oil seperator. Why would you need a filter in a closed system that already has the oil filtered by the main oil filter.

Erm, to release pressure from the crankcase, releasing the air back into the inlet manifold for recycling....the filter is to stop oil following through

Most engines have them some vent to atmosphere most recent vehicles back to the inlet

Hes actually right it is an oil separator not filter. It separates the oil out of the vapour before it vents to the air filter casing.

a bit pedantic though isn't it - cars either use filters or oil seperators for crank case venting - next helpful comment to contribute to the thread please

the new part is vortex stile separator, so no loo roll. however it still does capture the oil but does not getting clogged up. its straight fit replace for older model, and easily cleanable every 6 mths.
