My Ride: BMW E60 520i 2.2 I6, standard car, so far!!
Hi All
Ive just registered with this forum, 1st post here. My question is; I have just bought an E60 520i which has a single cd in the dashboard, I have been told I can install a 6 disc multichanger in the glove compartment, my local BMW dealer has also told me that if I bought a BMW multichanger off e bay it will not programme into my car as once they have been programmed to a specific vehicle they cannot be used in any other car. Has anyone else had any experience with these.
Cheers
Paul

Discussed extensively & lots of tips ... mostly accurate information; Today's BMWs are not plug and play friendly. Use search for more info.

not sure how true that is seeing as you can buy loads off ebay. they cant all be useless lol
i think the stealer wants you to buy one from them for more $$$ (sounds about right)
i replaced my cd changer with a dension unit (ipod+usb+aux) and all this does is pretend to be a cd changer and my car talks to that just fine!
far i no the cd changer just uses a simple power + fiber optic interface it will connect to any thing that can talk to it correctly, the cd changer it self never gets 'coded'?
only a guess though!

If your BMW has CD changer prep then it's a simple plug and play after a sortware update, you dealer is talking bull when they say it can't be done, get a printout from them detailing all the factory installed option's and see if the cd changer prep is on there, getting them to update your car without trying to rip you off is another thing altogether!I went from basic cd player to full pro-nav and changer with no problem's what so ever but I have an exellent independent BMW specialist here in my home town.

you need to have the pre-wiring for the CDC which pretty much every BMW i've ever seen has. CDC's can be put in regardless of which vehicle they were taken out of. Before getting a CDC i'd get the iPOD interface. Better option in the longrun. Also, I would suggest finding another dealer bc the one you are dealing with at the moment seems incompetent or they are blatantly lying to you.

quite spooky this but im actually having my changer programmed as we speak. I also live in teeside, I went to my local BMW dealers which is Preston Hall and was quoted ?225 for coding if I suplied the changer!!!!! Phoned around to find anyone else who could do it but to no avail then I found Sterling which is about 1/4 mile away from preston farm BMW. The guy used to work for them for 9 years then set uo his own business and has the neccesary kit to do the software upgrade for less than half main dealers price (fingers crossed it all goes to plan)

You need to get the car coded with NCS Expert. Do some internet searching for both the software and hardware.
