Default E60 AWD axle rebuild kit? + what the heck is this plastic ring

Does anyone know if they offer a rebuild kit for the front and/or rear axles for the 535xi? also, when uninstalling the passenger front CV axle I broke this plastic ring. I dont know what the hell it is. maybe some sort of water mitigation seal? googled the part numbers and looked all over for a rebuild kit, to no avail. help appreciated.

Just to be clear, that’s not the seal from the axle carrier (off side of the oil pan) that the cv joint goes into? I replaced mine recently but they’re the only thing I can think of that look similar. I didn’t pull my cv joints apart so not sure if there is something inside the boots.

Nope, it's actually hard plastic and located on the axle, outside of the boots. The three 'teeth' point in towards the oil pan. I think they come close without making contact.

Here was my axle when I had it out in August. It's not a close-up, but does it show your part? I'm thinking it's, like you say, what butts up against the seal on the driver side of that axle.

Yes sir! It's the grayish black ring that is sitting at the 60cm mark on your tape. Super convenient the tape is there lol.

Brilliant! That would make sense, protection from sticks, foreign debris etc... If that's the case I could probably super glue/JB weld it or just leave it off until I need new axles
