Has anyone else heard of any problems with the BMW light alloy star spoke styling 124 alloys. My wife hit a (not too large) pot hole last night at around 45mph and the wheel has cracked around 70% of it's diameter! See the pictures attached. I have never seen an alloy do this with so little impact. The car and wheels are only 3 months old but the dealer is at present shrugging their shoulders and saying it's accident damage.
Great user name; sad to hear/see your wheel pics. My heart goes out to you (your wheel problems). That is ridiculous what you are going through. Since dealers usually see this with people who hotrod their cars, I am not confident that you will have much luck with dealers. Keep watching classified here. I found a set of 123s with tires (4000 miles) for $630 shipped and another set of chrome 123s for $340 local. We need those extras for snow tires as the vehicle is up north.

Thanks for all the support and info. I went back to the dealer this afternoon to see the wheel as it had been removed from the car. It is split all the way around and the tyre has kept the wheel together.
I have requested a form from the local council for a claim anyway. The wheel is being sent to BMW for analysis and in the meantime a new wheel and tyre is being fitted (again no mention of costs as yet). Car will be ready tomorrow. One concern I have is that if that wheel was faulty then obviously the other 3 are a risk as they are very likely from the same batch? or Am I just being paranoid?
I suspect your dealer is really trying to get you some goodwill $$ for your wheel(s). If that is true, you need to speak highly of your dealership (without saying specifically what they did). They don't want 55 more people trying to get more wheels at $0 or a reduced rate. Problem is that some owners will try to milk the system and ruin it for legitimate claims. Anyway, make sure dealer (respective mgr and/or worker bee) gets some nice gift cards or something of value to him/her/them. Others will disagree with this, but I feel honey goes a lot further than vinegar. Others will say all should be treated equally. BMW can do that--by refusing all claims.

P. S. When I talked about honey, please don't refer to BMW people or me by 'honey.' If you do, I will take back everything I just typed.

I just looked at the dates on this thread. Dang it, I am about 10 years behind the times.
