E60 advice
Hello all-
I am in the market for a used/pre-driven E60; I've seen a few 04 525i & 530i's in my area with between 38-48k miles on them selling for between $27-33k. First off, is that a fair ballpark price for this car? Second, my wife is a little concerned about the maintenance on a BMW should something major go wrong with it. I like German cars (current VW owner) but she seems convinced that Japanese cars last longer (mother in law has a Lexus ES with over 100k miles on it and she swears it's the best thing since sliced bread so obviously if her mother's car never had any problems and it's Japanese, then it must be good
) and have less maintenance to worry about (say it isn't so!). I am used to the minor quirks that come with owning a German car but she is not. What can I tell her that will sooth her nerves a bit? (because, as all of you who are married know, if the wife ain't happy, you ain't happy!)
Would a car with that many miles on it still be eligible for BMW Assist and perhaps an extended full maintenance warranty (going up to, say, 100k miles)?
Have any current E60 owners encountered any perfomance or service issues that I should be aware of before I make a decision?
Any feedback and information that you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

I have a 2004 545i w/35,000 on it. It runs better now than when it was new, no problems - currently. My problems, in the past, were software related. That being said, I will not keep my car past the warranty - 5 years/50,000 period. My fear is the electronics could be very expensive to deal with. You can search the forum for options with an extended warranties - I would insist on one. It seems to me you have a lot of exposure buying a used e60, wife wise - good luck.
