Any reason why 535D is not available in US ?

Isn't due to emissions the diesel gives. Ar possibly its such a better car than petrols the eurpeons just dont want to see any leave

Nice mate, however don't forget that the 80-120 comparisons have a common factor : the initial gear is the same. I think the benchmark is 4th gear. Obviously,
the gear being the same in all cars, and flooring it at 80...torque is the key factor.
No doubt about it. 535d results are not surprising.
However, when at 80, if I downshift once or twice.....bye bye..!!

[/quote]Clived, thanks for the info...like I said, there is no doubt to the torque advantage of the 535d. it's awesome. At 80, at a fixed gear for both cars, the 535d will pull away. It's an elasticity/overtaking benchmark that has been used to this effect.
But if I am at 80 and want to floor it, going down a couple of gears puts me in high rpm, where the power is ( more in this case than the 535d ). Same case for the M5. It has less torque than the 535d, but it is a simple case of gear selection for real world driving.
Don't get me wrong. I think all 5's are great cars and don't wish to compete at that type of level. Engine selection is a personal thing for everyone. I'm merely stating the merits of both engines!!
BTW, although the elasticty figures look close enough...I think you would want to check the acceleration figures...there off!! 0-100 in 6.6? I'm sure I've done it in under 6.
