E60525d I'm going Friday to get chip from Kempower to my 530d. Let's see after that which are the acceleration values.

Im suprised that you didnt get steptronic
Auto adds 5% on the tax, due to the higher CO2. From 22% to 27%.

5% on ?40K x 40% (income tax) = ?70 a month extra tax.

I'm paying ?300 a month as it is. At ?70 a month for auto, the 6 speed is lovely.

Nice mate, however don't forget that the 80-120 comparisons have a common factor : the initial gear is the same. I think the benchmark is 4th gear. Obviously,
the gear being the same in all cars, and flooring it at 80...torque is the key factor.
No doubt about it. 535d results are not surprising.

However, when at 80, if I downshift once or twice.....bye bye..!!

According to these results (which I'm sure must have been discussed here long before I joined the forum!) I don't think your "bye bye" factor would be as large as you might think... Of course, it would be great to try it for real

Clived, thanks for the info...like I said, there is no doubt to the torque advantage of the 535d. it's awesome. At 80, at a fixed gear for both cars, the 535d will pull away. It's an elasticity/overtaking benchmark that has been used to this effect.
But if I am at 80 and want to floor it, going down a couple of gears puts me in high rpm, where the power is ( more in this case than the 535d ). Same case for the M5. It has less torque than the 535d, but it is a simple case of gear selection for real world driving.
Don't get me wrong. I think all 5's are great cars and don't wish to compete at that type of level. Engine selection is a personal thing for everyone. I'm merely stating the merits of both engines!!

BTW, although the elasticty figures look close enough...I think you would want to check the acceleration figures...there off!! 0-100 in 6.6? I'm sure I've done it in under 6.

Bye-bye!!

Hi Andy, I totally agree with you - and I actually would be quite surprised to find the 535D actually quicker in any accelleration "segment" than the 545i in the real world.... my point was just that if you chose the best gear in the 535d and the best gear in the 545i (obviously probably different gears) I honestly don't think you'd be saying "bye bye" (as in totally leaving for dead) the 535d.

I really would be interested to try this head to head test once my car has arrived (and is run in!) - it would be a lot of fun

Clive
