E60 80-120KPH times

Here's the official BMW times for the different engines in 4th gear. 80-120KPH is about 50-75MPH

Time (seconds)

520i - 9.4
525i - 8.4
530i - 7.3
525d - 6.5
545i - 5.8
530d - 5.4
M5 - 5.3 (predicted)
535d - 5.1 (predicted)

Torque (Nm)

520i - 210
525i - 245
530i - 300
525d - 400
545i - 450
530d - 500
M5 - 520
535d - 560

Anyone know the "official" times for the M5 and 535d.

With 560Nm of torque, I think the 535d is the daddy!

I'm also thinking "what will the times be with a Tuning Box, as my 530d would then have 600Nm and 258 BHP"

I dont think the 535d will be quicker than the M5.

The M5 is quicker from 100kph -200kph than so many other cars. Nearly every car there has more torque. So torque is not the key.

So torque is not the key.
That's why I did the graph. For the E60, torque DOES *seem* to be the key.

I'd like to know the offical results.

Those seem about right to me, the M5 has only 4% more torque than the 530d, and the 535d has more torque than the M5. Torque is definately a big factor. can understand the M5 will be quicker as the speed gets greater, plus you'll have to down shift a lot, where the diesels you won't have to as much.

I'd like to see the graph of torque/power for the diesels. Max torque is quite low. Maybe it drops off at high revs, where the M5 would storm ahead.

Maybe a 50-100 MPH test would show more results.

I'm sure that the M5 is quicker 0-200KPH anyway

Something doesn't add up. BMW figures say the max torque is at 2000 RPM. The graph says standard max is at 2700 RPM, and tuned is at 2800.

In fact the graph doesn't register any toque figures at 2000 RPM.

If the 6 speed box can't cope with the torque of a 535d, then I'd scared to do my 530d. Last thing I want is a broken box.

interesting comparisons - the 535d will be able to "surprise" quite a few supposedly faster vehicles.

I wouldn't hold out for beating the M5 in the increments though, remember the M5 has 7 gears so like-for-like will be difficult. Also, looking at torque alone is misleading, gearing is a critical factor. For example, a lower geared and lower torque car could have better in-gear increments than a high torque high geared car.

Also, for the M5 driver doing 50 and accelerating to 75 mph maybe more natural in a lower gear due to the high revving but smooth nature of the engine, so in real world conditions the difference is likely to be significant.

Im suprised that you didnt get steptronic. At first i didnt know what engine to go for but i definetly knew that i wanted steptronic. I would get a tuning box if i was you. The 6sp cant handle 560nm so how is it going to handle 600nm.

Im suprised that you didnt get steptronic
Auto adds 5% on the tax, due to the higher CO2. From 22% to 27%.

5% on ?40K x 40% (income tax) = ?70 a month extra tax.

I'm paying ?300 a month as it is. At ?70 a month for auto, the 6 speed is lovely.
