What is the best way of removing the engine from a 2006 550i? I've seen some people remove the radiator and entire front of the car and pull it straight out, I don't have a cradle or means to drop it through the bottom. I've seen it pulled up through the top and also seen it removed still attached to the sub-frame and front suspension. For the DIY mechanic with an engine lift would pulling it through the front be the best method? Any advice would be much appreciated this is my 1st one.

If you pull it out the front - you can pull it with the transmission attached - don't have to separate it in the car. I'm going through this now with an N54. You may still have to drop the engine subframe to clear the steering gear if you have AWD. Lots of work with all the radiators - ac condensor, power steering and transmission heat exchangers, etc. but it's not that bad if you're organized.
