well to say the least, quite suprising. I have raced an e39 M5 on the highway from kilometer 93-109 (sofia >>> plovdiv), and he took me from the start and at around 220 he was at least 50 meters in front of me. His limiter hit in at 260 and only then was i able to pass him, eventually reaching a speed of 289km/h on the speedo (274km/h by gps).. And i was with a... e46 m3 smg coupe with sports mode on / DSC off and shifting pattern 6.

And i used launch control at the last set of traffic lights out of the city, onto the highway..

And sorry mate, but i highly doubt it that the 535d accelerates anywhere near as fast as the chipped m3 (354bhp)... So i dont buy it, unless the m5 has had 250000km on the odo , and has lost about 250ponies... or he simply takes 3 seconds to shift gears

535D ROCKS!

It must have one of the best fuel mileage vs. performance there is?

Hahaha it surley was. Consumption before the "race" 10.9l/100km in city drive. traffic was light as it was sunday. After the race 14,1L/100km. Nice. Anyway i don't care too much about fuel consumption in exactly those kind of moments.

I suspect the M5 smoke was oil smoke. My E39 M5 could burn 1 litre every 700 miles in hard driving. Believe it or not, this was within BMW tollerences !

I didn't say anything about a chipped m3. I said what happened with an e39 m5. He was obviusly quicker than me, but the underlined thing it was the fact that i could cope very well staying right with him in the very 1st couple of seconds of accelerating. We floored it from 100km/h onwords. So if it would have been a stand still race the gap would have been more than huge. Damn, i pay alot and i mean ALOT of respect for the m cars and i don't say it because i own a 535d, i'm fairly objective on this. It was like i could stay with him for at least 2 gears. Only after that he starts to pull away from me. Also as the speed got higher the ability of my car to keep up even if he would have been right beside me, became smaller and smaller. But to make myself clear i was amaized by the way i could keep up at moderate speeds especially from overtaking manouvers.

Yes i also suspect that. There's nothing else there could be. Also the black smoke came only at peak revs. Despite the fact that i had my music turned on almost at max, and the engine of my car in full throttle i was still able to hear a glimps of the v8 roaring at high revs. That was when in every gear the smoke came out.

Sorry missunderstood. Still morging u know...

From what i understand u raced that guy with ur m3 from a stand still start. So given that of course i said if i would have done it from stand still the guy would have smoked me by far. I just said about the braking/accelerating/overtaking manouvers. If u don't buy it...sorry i don't lie. That's the exact thing that happened.

Bigipaq if u know the guy and it's an active member on bmwclub.ro tell him to pay us a visit to clarify things...

i just dont. The m5 revs to 7100-7400rpm (depending on tune) , it generates 500nm , it has 400bhp, and it weights less than the 535d... Unless he does not know when to shift down, to explore the maximum potential of the car then you have NO chance... even in overtaking.

I have raced a corvette z06 which does 0-100 in 3.8seconds, and an m6 and won... Why? because the people that drive them are 16-18, and they cannot or are scared to drive daddys car...

You have a steptronic, and you were in DS, as soon as you kicked down on the gas you downshift, whereas he keeps the same gear... I have raced a 330d from a start of 120km in 6th gear and no surprisingly he kept pulling away , until i got into 4th
