Hi, very interested to see if anyone else has had success stopping the squeak with the filter change ... I'll probably give it a go when I get the chance, myself! Thanks for the info, OP!

I actually replaced it last weekend and the squeek is a little better but is still there. At least I have a new reservoir and clean fluid. Cross it off the list and try the next thing.

My concern is about spending money on parts without eliminating the issue. I am not implying that this maintenance is not a wise choice but if the issue remains I wonder what the true cause is? My noise is intermittent meaning it is not steady....dang cars!!

Totally get it. I've done some more research and it turns out there is an additive called Lubrizol 6178 that should also be added when you do the fluid flush that is supposed to really help. I'm going to pick some up and add that and see if it does anything. If not I will start lubing parts individually.

Do you have a link?

I will contact my buddy on Monday and ask him if he is familiar with this BMW issue, what is the cause and how to remedy it. I will also take my car to him so he will have first hand knowledge.

While I ordered the parts to change out the reservoir and filter, I think the squeak I have is not based on internal lubrication, but a mechanical noise. I notice it when the weather changes a bit more and by lubing up the steering mechanism in front of the fire wall I can make it better.

To be clear, this may solve a noise of some kind but in my case, it sounds more like rubber on metal. But good post on how to change the reservoir and filter. Thank you.

^^^^ I question why people order parts/waste money regarding a specific issue without fully knowing the specific cause.
