i dont think the E60 will look dated. the e39 didnt look dated until recently IMO.
i think the e60 styling will stand the test of time. at least another 4-5 years.

And even if it does, I don't care, I will be driving around a new 2013 5xxi something
There is a reason why I have the 2010 cause I know for sure that the first gen. F10 will have some issues

I think this has a lot more to do with people being able to afford the new models as the price is getting pretty cheap for a used one. That was a very extensive write up and a lot of the points are valid. One of my buddies has a E39 and I appreciate the leather in that car compared to our models. I think both have their pros/cons and have classic bodies that have become instant classics, especially the E39M5

I had both and love both. I'm still a very big fan of the E39 M5. One of my favorite cars of all time.
The E39 had it's weaknesses but so does the E60 (yeah I know them's fightin' words). I like the steering of the E60 MUCH better (R&P vs. E39's recirc Ball on the V8's). Handling *feels* better on the E60 but I think the E39 was more sure footed at speed and in the turns (could be the run flats). The E60 is a bigger car but close to the same weight as the E39. And being a newer model, the E60 is more refined. The 6sp ZF manual on the E60 is also less sloppy than the Getrag on the E39.

I owned em both too; Black on Tan E39 540 W/Dinan Stage 2 and now 550..
Truth be told, it took me till 2008 to warm-up to the exterior/interior styling of the E60..And then only the LCI, M-Tech cladded 550 w/ZSP had the aesthetic appeal (for me) to pull me in.
I agree the E39 is looking dated now, but it is imo still one of the most beautiful BMW designs of the last 25 years.
Now would I trade my 08 550 in for one? Don't think so
Guess I should just be awfully grateful I've had the opportunity to own both.

I am thinking of the same conclusion as you Krozi. I've already read tons of posts in that forum of people talking crap about the E60 and saying that they can purchase them new with no problems financing or cash and then the very same people turn around making comments like they wish they could afford to buy a new BMW.
I don't think it's about the money.
I've never heard anyone on any message board say they wished they could afford a new BMW.
Frankly, I still spend some time on e39 boards, as I made friends there, and most of them are top execs at companies, or self employed. Not hurting for cash. Being more reasonable, sure, but the primary reason I hear those guys keeping their e39s is because they truely hate the e60 design, although most agree that it looks better with the MTech bumpers.

I had my E39 Touring for 6 years before getting the E61. They are different in many ways and although I do miss the E39, I am thrilled to own the E61.
