Ever since the first E60 have been rolling out on the streets, all I ever hear from the faithful E39 drivers are that the E60 are ugly, a boat, badily built, material quality is inferior, etc. etc.
Check this thread out on Bimmerfest where one dude picks up a E60 and does a comparo against his older E39.
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthrea...p;highlight=e60
I'm beginning to think that most but not all are just ill because purchasing a new BMW 5 series would be way too much pressure financially..
Maybe I'm wrong but all I hear when they are not directly comparing the E60 to their cars is comments like "why would anyone pay that much for a 5 series, or I don't like the way the E60 looks besides I couldn't afford one anyway." etc. etc.

People are resistant to change and are mad they can't afford the E60 is my guess.
But there are people who really prefer the older/more boxy BMW designs. For instance, I have always loved the E46 design myself, but I also find the E90 design very well done and has proven itself in the market.

people are always opposed to new concepts and products for the simple fact that they are not common yet
e39 owners have a lot to be proud of, that series was one of the best looking ones.
I think it looks dated now obviously and they should stop living in the past.
New cars are out and while there may be some faults they are much more integrated with current living standards and technology

i think the e39 is dated now. They are envious is my guess too.
the e60 looks FAR BETTER then the e39 now IMO. i parked next to a black one yesterday and the e39 couldnt touch the edgy beautiful look of the e60

I'll make up my mind as soon as I see the F10 on the dealer lot. Internet never shows the "real" look of the car. It always looks different in person. You get a much better feel for the design when you stare at it in person.

My Ride: See my signature
I, like the author of the long Bimmerfest review, also had the E39 2003 540i Sport with all of the M Tech goodies. Now I have the 2009 550i Sport.
On balance, my 550 is a far superior car to my E39 540. My 550 is a much more tenacious handler (that it, it has more grip in the twisties), its interior and seats are of far higher quality and comfort than the 540 (the 540's "sport seats" felt like two iron maidens compared to my 550's comfort seats), the electronics and stereo system in the 550 (I have Logic7) are far superior to those in the 540 (I had the upgraded "DSP" sound system -- which was a piece of garbage -- and the 540's electronics were stone age level).
My 550 has dramaticially greater highway passing power than my 540 and has more interior and trunk room.
But there are things about my 540 that I really do miss. First and foremost, the 540's V8 engine had much more low end power and the throttle response was instantaneous. When you stepped on the gas in the 540, you felt like you were being shot out of a cannon. Not so in the 550. The 550's throttle delay is maddening and the engine is totally gutless at low RPMs. I also felt more connected to the road in the 540 than I do in the 550.
Overall, the 550 is the better car. But my 540 was as much, if not more, fun to drive. I still miss it but I would not give up my 550 for one.
