Dull door trim fixed
#1
My door trim was dull and I tried all kinds of cleaners. Might have dulled due to a buildup of wax. Finally tried paintwork cleaner from BMW, part number 83 12 9 408 528, and it worked great.
Instructions say to wax afterwards but I ended up getting some streaking. Maybe the trim should not be waxed. So I just cleaned with the paint cleaner and left it.
To get rid of the dull trim took about 5 or 6 applications and fairly hard rubbing. I found circular or vertical rubbing did not work as well as horizontal. I used a soft rag and applied a fair bit of pressure using two fingers.

I should have added, my trim is painted. I see some models without paint on the door trim. Not sure if this cleaner will work for them.
Looks great BTW!

I didn't paint it, mine has the sport package that comes with painted trim. But it got very dull over time. Dealer thought it was from car wash detergent and maybe wax.
I think it cost about $17 Canadian for the paint cleaner.
