Dull door trim fixed

My door trim was dull and I tried all kinds of cleaners. Might have dulled due to a buildup of wax. Finally tried paintwork cleaner from BMW, part number 83 12 9 408 528, and it worked great.

Instructions say to wax afterwards but I ended up getting some streaking. Maybe the trim should not be waxed. So I just cleaned with the paint cleaner and left it.

To get rid of the dull trim took about 5 or 6 applications and fairly hard rubbing. I found circular or vertical rubbing did not work as well as horizontal. I used a soft rag and applied a fair bit of pressure using two fingers.

+1 ... I'll have to try that too ... my black sports pkg trim looks OK but over time the slooooow color change might not be noticeable. I was going to use Maguires "back to Black" but when I googled it I saw posts about it whitening some black trims so I've bagged that idea.

I should have added, my trim is painted. I see some models without paint on the door trim. Not sure if this cleaner will work for them.

Have you painted it yourself? There is an OEM option available too, called high gloss. Your trim looks like that.

I didn't paint it, mine has the sport package that comes with painted trim. But it got very dull over time. Dealer thought it was from car wash detergent and maybe wax.

I think it cost about $17 Canadian for the paint cleaner.
