I think I've seen someone post this on the forum before and I like to steal it:

In general BMW won't let you do something you shouldn't be able to do. There's no problem switching between them at all.

went right over my head! I drive in normal mode to save gas. I put it in DS when I get the itch or some knucklehead rev up next to me. E60 in manual mode on days when I'm bored!

I agree that there will be no damage. I often do it at a lot of different speeds.

I've pressed the P button on a F10, at 80Km/h (just to test, it was a rent car), and all I've got was a warning on the I-Drive screen and a bell
I have a '06 525i (AT), and also I tried to shift down where I know that the RPM will go past the 7 mark, and the shift didn't worked. So, as someone said before, it seems that the car won't let you do anything that can do damage...

Default And from D to N?

I recently changed the auto gearbox on my 520i after just 26k miles.
I remember to have twice moved the gear selector from D to N while driving at around 60mph. (This was because I had thought I was in manual mode, so was trying to shift up to accelarate and found myself in N and coasting).
My gearbox broke about two or so years later but should that have affected my gearbox?
Can anyone think of a good reason why that should be allowed during driving?

Cheers
