Further to 'toyota2bmw's comments, you may be able to get an idea of the cost involved if you go to wwww.realoem.com to explore the site and view some rough costs of parts. While the damage is evident on one side, other suspension parts could be bent but not show damage. After my accident in January only the entire left side of my rear suspension was replaced although the car drove OK but many parts were bent slightly but thankfully just on the one side. You can try fixing one side but only an extensive alignment, etc will tell you if both sides were damaged. I would only use a BMW-approved body shop to do the work.

Additionally, why don't you take it to a dealership or indy mechanic and have them inspect and tell you exactly what needs replacing. You may have to pay a fee but at least you'll know exactly what needs to be fixed. That would probably be the best first step. Then you can work on shopping for the parts and deciding on making it a DIY project or find an indy to do the work. Obviously the dealership will rape you.

If the strut broke like that you have a lot of damage. This is going to be thousands I would imagine. If you got run off the road, your uninsured motorist coverage should cover the damage. I agree if it is small money, forget the insurance company. But, if it is big money, the longer you wait to contact them the worse it is going to be.

Sweet Jesus that's going to cost a lot to repair professionally. Sorry to hear this happened, from a fellow 19 year old.
Side question, KSports are less than a grand?? I thought they were like 1300ish.
No worries, check out the rest of the suspension and if it's just the one strut replace both front ones and be done with it. If there is more damage I would suggest PM'ing member toyota2bmw, he found some sites where you can get near OEM components fairly cheap. Another option (that is still under $1k) is if the rest of the suspension is fine and it's just the strut, you can always get KSport coilovers - perfect mod

I know off hand that I actually went airborne in my car and landed on one wheel and broke one of my struts and it cost $600 for the dealer to replace.
