The old one was cooked, for sure. Exposed, copper wires every where. How BMW thought that was a good idea is beyond me. The new one has all insulated wire, so no chance for a short.....which leads me to think it’s a fault in the FSM.

What is an FSM? It could be any three word acronym. ... something maintenance?

I believe only BMW's equipped with the HID projector headlamps have the cornering lamp, as the high beams are integrated into the projector housing. With the regular halogen equipped headlights, that cornering lamp is instead replaced by the high beam assembly.

I too have run into this problem with both headlamp assemblies. It is caused by the disintegrating rubber seals allowing moisture to get inside. With hot ambient temperatures, that moisture eventually turns into steam vapor and dissolves the glue holding that cornering lamp lens in place. With constant road driving vibrations, those lens eventually fall out of their socket, leaving your car with a "popped eyeball" appearance.

I was able to sort of pull both lens back into place and friction-hold with double sided tape or glue using the tiny access port right above each assembly. There is a circular cover you twist off for access. It is not easy and requires tons of patience.
I know it's been a few years but on the off chance you see this, how did you manage the side where the little cap isn't directly over the lens? Thanks in advance
