Hello:
I know there have been threads on this subject, I searched without finding the answer. The problem is the driver side window "sticking" 2/3 of the way up when "auto" closed. I get the error message on idrive & the window icon on speedo. My Sept 2003 built 545i has done this from day one. It happens more often now, maybe every third time. The dealer "lubed window guides and reinitalized the window". That did do jack! Question, anybody know if the problem is software, I am running 11.2, or hardware related - channel to narrow? Has anybody had a fix to this problem. If so, please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Maybe a problem with the rubbers in the window??
I had that situation twice in the rear right window, dealer told me that it was nothing and it should disappear. Nothing at this time.

I get the other problem sometimes where window closes 2/3s the way up and goes back down again when nothing is in the way. Apparently that's a known problem but not sure whether there's a fix for it.

That's the one! window goes up, about 2/3 of the way, then comes back down. I get the error message to the effect that something is in the way. Nothing but air there. How often do you experience this problem? I have about 10,000 miles on my car & it is starting to happen more often. Thanks, any & all information is greatly appreciated.

I've had the same issue on the passenger side all along. I just read a thread about 2 weeks ago about how to reinitialize the window yourself. That solves my problem for a few days, then it does it again. It does fix it for a while though.

To reinitialize the window...

Lower it all the way to the bottom. Then raise it (not "auto-up", but hold the button to the "up" position) until it reaches the top, ALTHOUGH continue holding the window in the "up" position an additional 3 seconds. Lower it again and continue the process another 2-3 times. Then the car will know where the "full up" position is.

Again, this should temporarily solve the issue. Just hope one of the next software upgrades really fixes it.

juan2mini,

I see. I was confused as I don't get any error message when that happens to me. As to how often it happens, it intermittent for me. Hope it doesn't happen frequently. Will try the reinitialise process mentioned in this post and see what happens.

i can echo what user 555 says about reinitializing the window manually. this same weird behaviour occasionally use to haunt my previous E46 coupe, only happened a few times though.

It never happened on my E46 320iSE or 325iSE though.
