Hello All:

My door seals seem to be creaking. Every time I make a turn or going up/down the driveway the car seems to be making a creaking sound. I have searched and found this to be common due to the door seals on the E60. I know there was a TSB for this. Question is, my car is a 2004 545i with 64,XXX miles on it. Will the dealer still honor this or will it come out of my pocket?

Thanks,
Mike

I would say no, but depends on the dealer. If you had documented a complaint before the warranty expired, maybe. The creaking is usually the result of wax getting on the painted part of the body where the door seals make contact. To improve the situation, get a new, clean sponge and some Dawn dish soap. Clean the painted body part where the seals meet the body to remove any wax or dirt that may be contributing to the creaking. Then dry with a clean, soft cloth such as a microfiber towel. I have found this usually solves the creaking, at least until the car gets waxed again...

Yes this is a common problem particularly with the earlier models - and as already mentioned it will be down to your local dealership and how 'kind' they are feeling.

If there is anyone on the board who has had this work done under Good-will it may be worth getting their details and using their vehicle as an example to leverage a good will fix for your seals?

Good Luck

Thanks to all who have commented. I will talk to my dealership to see what they say. I will also try the fix. Really appreciate the help.

If car is still under warranty, dealer WILL fix it for warranty. In the meantime, you can rub the felt down with any mild cleaner until the next rain.

I just had my car serviced two weeks ago. The dealer stated that there is a new solvent that they are using for the door seals.

The only fix here is to clean the seals. They will not replace them. My service report stated that they used teflon tape on the job, but this may have been for another complaint that I made for wind noise in the sunroof.

Good luck, but try using a solvent like "goof-off" before running to them.
