thanks. I'd managed to find that out, the problem is we can't get the combination we want. It seems we can have:

a) doors lock on drive away. single key press unlocks all doors. all doors unlock on turning ignition off.

b) doors lock on drive away. single key press unlocks drivers door. drivers door unlocks on turning ignition off.

but not

c) doors lock on drive away. single key press unlocks drivers door. all doors unlock on turning ignition off.

so we've settled for a) in the end?

I guess your wife prefers single key press to unlock only driver's door for safety reason. Just press the lock/unlock on the dash twice to unlock all doors. Just 1 extra step for the sake of safety.

Or simply ask the passengers to double pull the handle to open the door themselves.

Correct about the safety reasons and I hear what your saying about it being just 1 extra step but she wants it to work how she wants it and nothing else will do!

the doors in the rear have the child safety locks on which causes the problem here. Oh well looks like a comprise *is* going to be called for

Is this not key dependent...

In that you can have Key 1 programmed to (a) for you and Key 2 programmed to (b) for your wife ...?

I'm assuming that all US drivers find that the doors do NOT unlock when the ignition is turned off? Mine lock when I drive away (set in I-drive), but I must unlock via the central lock button on the dash. Not a big headache, but I wouldn't mind having the option of having all doors unlock automatically upon shutdown.

I give you another not-so-good option. After shutting down the engine, ask your wife to open the driver's door first, and then press the button on the console. With the driver's door open, the system is "smart" to know it's not supposed to lock the door, and hence will unlock the other 3 doors instead.

Or, don't let the car autolock. Manually lock the doors, and upon shutting down the engine, no doors will be unlocked; one hit on the button will unlock all.

Well, there are many alternatives, just not one she wants.
