Well.....
I didn't think it was possible, but somehow I was able to lock my car while it was running! :bashwall:
I was placing an Open House sign at an intersection about 20 minutes before my open house (I was actually early for once). I shut the trunk, went to the drivers door, pulled the handle and * F@#K! * The car was locked!

I called BMW assist and they said that they "Can't unlock the car remotely" (Hmmm, the CTS-V can do that - but it's a pice of sh*t in every other respect).
Luckilly my brother-in-law happened to be driving by a minute later.
He gave me a ride back to my house (about 20 minutes away each direction).
When I came back 40 minutes later, my car was actually still idling where I left it.

Soooo......
I thought that this wasn't possible.
I just got my car back with a new software version. I'm wondering if this is some kind of "upgrade"?

Rudy, or anyone else, how could this happen?
(Rudy, you can answer anytime before the Pat's kick the Eagles ass )

Why isnt it possible? Is it suppose to shut off after a certain amount of idling time?

Wasn't there someone in this forum who experienced something similar?

I remember reading about someone leaving their car in an automatic carwash, with the key in the ignition, and then returning to a locked car.

It happened to me once in my driveway (thank God). After that, I turned off the setting in iDrive that says something like "lock doors if no door is opened." Ever since I changed that setting, it hasn't happened again.

I know it's not supposed to do what it did to you but I don't trust the BMW software engineers enough to use that setting ever again!

That setting is a nice feature if your kid is playing with the keys.

I have it set to the above mentioned position, lock if no door is opened...
After the software update I had all those settings still active, but they didn't worked correctly. I had to uncheck them in idrive and check them again, a re-initialization. Then everything worked perfect again.
So my guess is, it is a bug and you should re-initialize those settings.

I think someone had their car to lock if a door wasn't opened. They got out and got locked out. That's what I think I remember. Seems like it was reported around September, IIRC.

Even if I re-initialize, I don't have enough trust in the software to leave that setting enabled. It only happened to me once but that was enough to lose faith that I can ever use that feature again. What if a small child was in the car, etc? It's simply not worth the risk...

Yeah, but I don'T have any kids or pets in the car. I only leae the key in there when it's getting washed - but I carry the spare key when I wash the car.
