I have always liked the e46 M3, have to agree there...maybe even a vert since I live in ATL and could use it.
I would have to drive it. I drove an 2005 330i vert w/ performance pkg and it was a bucket of bolts. Creaked, rattled and banged over bumps. I then drove a 2006 premium pkg and it was smooth as silk. Either it was the performance pkg or the car was beaten up. I would expect an M3 feels like the performance pkg?
We saw a Silverstone m3 Vert new at our local dealership showroom and it was gorgeous..even my wife said she would re-learn the manual transmission for that car. But it was $72k msrp.
If I could find a very clean e46 330i convertible 2006 or 2007 (I forget when they stopped...I think 2007). That could work. I liked that interior also, more old school.

. If you're going to be looking at new cars, definitely do not rule out the C63 AMG thats a monster of a car. Its auto, so your wife won't have to learn to drive MT and you won't have to replace the clutch every 10K miles

Really? Not even the A5? I think for a sports coupe it looks great!. My only problem with Audi is that they don't produce enough power for the amount of money spent.
My take is to get a used e46 M3.....the e46 will be in the hall of fame of most badass designed coupes haha.

yeah, even the A5 - all Audi designs get the same "eh" reaction from me. I dunno why, just something about them just doesn't inspire the passion I have for BMW. Or even the passion I have for say the Nissan GTR (either current or R34 are SICK!!), even the EVO 10 is more appealing to me, again IMHO.
Seriously, forget everything you know about driving excitement until you are in a GTR. Not a bad investment in terms of cars either... You won't make money on it, but anything else on here will depreciate like a rock in comparison.

Agreed, however, I think he's trying to AVOID spending $70+K. In that case maybe an E46 would be perfect.
